In a tragic incident, at least six people were burned to death and about 12 others were injured after a fire broke out at a chemical factory in the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh.
As per reports, the fire broke out in the factory delivering polymer raw material after a container got leaked and the blazes started hitting the factory through an opened manhole.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma said the fire in the factory at Akkireddygudem was possibly caused by a nitric acid leak. The state government has announced ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh to those injured in the fire.
“A total of five people died on the spot and one was killed on the way to the hospital. 12 people are also injured in the accident,” Srinvasulu, DSP Nujiveedu said.
As per the police, there were 18 workers on duty at the time of the accident. The victims were shifted to Vijayawada and Nuziveedu for better treatment. A total of four deceased people belonged to the Bihar state.
