SC to parties: Submit Electoral Bonds details in ‘sealed cover’

The Supreme Court, in an interesting interim verdict over the funding to parties through Electoral Bonds, it has directed all political parties to submit the ‘details’ (all transactions, source of funding, identify bynames etc.,) in ‘sealed cover’ to the Election Commission of India.

Supreme Court rejected the Government’s Attorney-General plea for stay.  The Election Commission has expressed its inability to ensure transparency as none of the parties are willing to share ‘source’, especially foreign funding.  As a result, the ECI has set the deadline as May 30 and directed the parties to all political parties to submit the details.

This was challenged by the Governmet arguing that ‘information’ about the funders or donors, may subject to put risk, if rivals come to the power.  Hence, it felt broadly it can give details, but not minute details.

The apex court retained the ECI deadline as May 30.

Whether it will have any bearing in rest of the phases of elections, one has to wait and see.  The BJP is the most richest political parties with 95 per cent, followed by Congress having 2 and rest Opposition 3 per cent.

The BJP claims as it is not only emerged as the biggest political party in the country, but also in the world.   It has over 100 million registered primary members of the party.
