SC to constitute a panel to probe PM security breach

The Supreme Court today heard a petition regarding a massive security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Punjab. The PM’s convoy was stranded on a flyover because of a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur, after which he returned from Punjab without attending the planned events, including a rally.

The apex court has agreed to form a high-level committee headed by a retired SC judge to investigate lapses in Modi’s security in Punjab.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli was hearing the plea filed by an organisation, Lawyers Voice.

The court said DGP Chandigarh, IG NIA, Registrar General and Additional DG, Intelligence Bureau may be on the panel.

The Center has made it clear that the stay on the investigation of committees made by the Punjab governments will continue as well. Meanwhile, the MHA alleged that the Punjab government failed to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road.
