As India is battling the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic, the Supreme Court today asked the Centre to present a national plan on Covid-19 management, including the supply of oxygen and vaccination drive.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the current severe situation across the country, a bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said it would also examine the matter about the method and manner of vaccination drive in the country.
The bench, also comprising Justices LN Rao and SR Bhat, said it would consider the aspect pertaining to the judicial power of the high courts to announce lockdown amid the pandemic.
The apex court stated at least six high courts – Delhi, Bombay, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Calcutta and Allahabad – are hearing the cases which deal with issues of the prevailing situation. The bench issued a notice to the Centre and said it would hear the matter on Friday.
