SC appoints 3-member committee to inquire Pegasus case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed an expert committee to look into Pegasus snooping controversy. The apex court of India appointed a committee of three technical members to carry a thorough inquiry into allegations of the use of Pegasus software for illegal surveillance.

A bench comprising Chief Justice N. V. Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli said the three-member committee will be headed by former top court judge RV Raveendran.

Supreme Court asked the expert panel to prepare its report promptly and posted the next hearing on a batch of petitions after 8 weeks.

“Every citizen of the country must be protected from violation of their right to privacy and Pegasus snooping allegation is chilling in nature, and the court must find out the truth,” the top court said.

Alok Joshi, former IPS officer (1976 batch) and Sundeep Oberoi, Chairman, Sub Committee in (International Organisation of Standardisation/International Electro-Technical Commission/Joint Technical Committee) will assist justice Raveendran in this task.
