Film director and producer Ram Gopal Varma today met the cinematography minister of Andhra Pradesh, Perni Nani at the secretariat in Amaravathi. It is known that RGV had opposed the government’s intervention in fixing the ticket price and questioned the state over the same.
As per reports, the filmmakers’ meeting with the minister lasted for two and a half hours. After the meeting, RGV spoke to reporters and said talks with Perni Nani had ended satisfactorily. Five important issues were discussed, mainly the reduction of ticket rates, as mentioned earlier. It was clarified that there was no discussion on the closure of theatres. He said no one should have authority over price allocation.
RGV said that he did not come on behalf of the film industry, but he came to tell the government his opinion as a producer. He opined that ticket prices are one reason for postponing the release of big films like RRR and Radhe Shyam.
The director further added, “I do not agree with the claim that the government has reduced movie ticket prices as part of a political ploy. However, the government’s decision is impacting all the stars and all the movies. I do not think the government will take such a decision just to target Pawan Kalyan and Balakrishna. The issue of ticket price reduction does not end with this single discussion, which gives ample examples and answers to all the questions, because the film industry is not just me, there are hundreds of people, and the government takes the views of all of them.”
