Rahul’s papers cleared by Amethi RO

Objections raised by some candidates of Amethi Lok Sabha constituency was set aside by the Returning Officer on Monday.  He made the documents submitted by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi are valid, after srutinising allegations of discrepancies over citizenship and other issues.

The decision was taken by Returning Officer Ram Manohar Misra, after hearing Rahul’s counsel clarifications.

It may be recalled that it was an independent candidate and three others had on Saturday raised objections over the Congress chief’s nominaton from Amethi, alleging discrepancies over citizenship and educational qualifications in his election affidavit.

The BJP, which latched on to the objections raised by the contestants who are also in the fray, had also joined the chorus to demand the Congress chief to clarify his citizenship as well educational qualifications.

Added to it, reports were also in circulation in the social media claiming that the Cambridge University of UK, in fact has confirmed Rahul Gandhi’s name in their rolls had as Rahul Vinci and citizenship of British.

Ravi Prakash, the lawyer of complainant Dhruv Lal, who is the fray, had also submitted before the RO purported copies of a certificate of incorporation of a UK registered company in which the Congress chief is stated to be a British national.

Dhruv’s lawyer also claimed that the UK Company had existed for five years and would have made some profit, but that has not been disclosed in the affidavit.

He further sought a clarification on Gandhi’s citizenship as being a UK citizen would bar him from contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
