Many states across the nation are facing a scarcity of supplemental oxygen for critical patients amid spurt in Covid-19 cases. As per reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met health experts and other big rank officials at 9:30 am on Sunday to review oxygen supply, medicine availability in hospitals and other covid related issues.
The meeting comes at a time when the Delhi high court ordained the Centre to supply 490 metric tonnes of allocated oxygen to the national capital on Saturday itself. The Centre on Saturday increased Delhi’s daily quota of medical oxygen to 590 metric tonnes from 490 MT and it has also suggested the states to audit the oxygen supply.
Union health ministry announced, Delhi will get an additional 75 metric tonne of oxygen from LINDE Kalinganagar and 25 MT from JSW BPSL Jharsuguda.
Meanwhile, the government has notified the Supreme Court that PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah are directly involved in boosting the oxygen supply on a “war-footing”.
“Resultantly, more and more medical oxygen is generated and is being made available every day, keeping not just existing requirements but potential future requirements,” the Centre said.
Joint Secretary of the Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal affirmed, the states have already been allocated 8,593 MT of liquid oxygen and the situation is likely to get better.
