No much threat to Telangana from swarms of locusts now!

Recently the locusts problem in the country has wreaked havoc in the least expected way. This has made agricultural officials to be more vigilant on the possible dangers that could occur as the locusts have been reaching towards Amravati in Maharashtra putting Telangana on high alert.

Telangana’ seven regions that connects with the Maharashtra’s border has now been safeguarded with all the ammunition required to battle swarms of locus, on the off chance that they enter from the neighbouring State. Yesterday, meteorologists from the private climate determining organization, Skymet and the India Meteorological Department uncovered that Telangana probably won’t have much threat presently.

Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist of Skymet, said that the breezes thrusting currently from the northwest are confined only till Vidarbha, propelling the locusts to navigate through trajectory of winds. In the coming two days it could go till east of Madhya Pradesh.

He asserted that in these two days there is lesser chance of winds reaching the northern tip of Telangana like Adilabad and subsequently the probability of the grasshoppers’ arrival is low. After two days, southwest winds are anticipated to rise that could repel the insects away from Telangana.

Telangana Agriculture Principal Secretary, B Janardhan Reddy said, “Presently it (locust swarms) is in Maharashtra, between Amravathi and Nagpur. Its direction and trajectory are not yet established.”

They will be taking the assistance of Fire Department to keep the insecticides ready. As there is no availability of crops except few horticulture crops, the locusts will alight on trees. The Fire Department personnel will spray water mixed with insecticides in the right proportion, he added.

District Collectors of Adilabad, Khammam, Bhupally, Macherial etc have directed the agriculture officials to make necessary arrangements with the help of disaster management department.
