New twist in phone tappings case, in High Court

The allegations of the government of Andhra Pradesh tapping the phones of several judges went viral a few days ago, after it was first published by a media organisation.

The High Court has now issued notices to the CBI and various telecom companies,for better understanding of the case. Companies like BSNL, Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, etc., have received the notices, along with the CBI. Initially, the CBI was to conduct investigation into this matter and enquire everyone related to the case. However, the High Court has now sent a notice to the CBI as well, so that it can deal individually with each organisation.

Nearly 16 organisations/individuals have received the notices, and the High Court has asked them to respond personally or through an advocate within the span of 4 weeks. The High Court has also sent a notice to All India Internet Service Providers’ Association.

As soon as the news got out about the tapping of the phones, it became a huge political debate in Andhra Pradesh. The government of Andhra Pradesh had even released a public statement that it did not tap the phones of any judges. It had even pressed its case in the High Court, and asked it to send a notice to the media house that initially published the article. However, the High Court refused to do that, and decided to proceed with investigating the case.

It is now to be seen what other developments will take place in the case. In case the government is found guilty, it will completely tarnish the image of the government, more so than it already is.
