Nene Vasthunnaa Review: Second half syndrome

Kollywood star actor Dhanush’s new film, Naane Varuvean under the direction of Selvaraghavan had a simultaneous release today in Telugu as Nene Vasthunnaa. Let’s analyse it.

Story:

Nene Vasthunnaa revolves around the life story of twin brothers Prabhu and Kadir. Due to wired behaviour of Kadir, the twins will be separated in childhood. Later, after growing up which incidents bring the twin brothers together? What is twist in Kadir’s role? To know that, you have to watch the film in the theaters near you.

On-screen performances:

As usual, Dhanush is impressive with his performance. The variations he showcased in the dual role bring depth to the proceedings. Dhanush’s emotional acting in the first half of the film is good.

Director cum actor Selvaraghavan shines in a key cameo. Elli AvrRam is okay in her performance in the given limited screen time. Indhuja Ravichandran is decent in her acting as a typical housewife.

Other artists such as Prabhu, Yogi Babu, the child artists are okay in their respective roles.

Off-screen Talents:

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is good. While all the songs are passable on screen, his background score elevates the mood of the film nicely.

The cinematography work by Om Prakash registers well as his framing and lighting setup is an added advantage for the movie.

Bhuvan Srinivasan’s editing work is good as he kept the runtime within limits.Production values for this Dhanush starrer are nice.

Selvaraghavan’s idea of making a psychological drama by interlinking the proceedings with twin brothers story is good. While he presentation in the first half is gripping, the film turns boring with predictable in the second half.

Verdict:

In an overview, Nene Vasthunnaa is a psychological drama that has a few engaging moments in the first half. Though Dhanush did his part decently, the unconvincing second half comes as a major drawback for the film.
