Following a show cause notice gave over the administration’s “unbelievable” reaction to a RTI (Right to Information) inquiry identified with the Aarogya Setu application, the IT Ministry responded saying it was finding a way to conform to the CIC’s requests, while affirming that the application had been created by the National Informatics Center (NIC) as a team with volunteers from industry and the officials.
The conflict rose after the Ministry and NIC were condemned by the Central Information Commission (CIC) over their reply to an RTI stating that they do not have any data about the “creation” of the Aarogya Setu app put forth by the Indian government to curb COVID-19 rampage.
As ordained by CIC, Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) of Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), National E-Governance Division (NeGD) and NIC would appear on November 24, 2020. MeitY is taking required measures to be in accordance with the orders of the CIC,” the IT Ministry stated.
In the order, Information Commissioner Vanaja N. Sarna raised concern that the website of the application read that the content on it is “owned, updated and maintained” by MyGov and MeitY, and urged the CPIO of the Ministry to elucidate why there is no requisite information.
