Mosagallu Movie Review: Silly and Illogical

Movie Name Mosagallu
Star Cast Manchu Vishnu, Kajal Agarwal, Suniel Shetty
Director Jeffrey Gee Chin
Producer Vishnu Manchu
Music Sam C. S.
Run Time 2 hr 15 Mins
Release Date 19th Mar 2021

Mosagallu stars Manchu Vishnu and Kajal in lead roles. The duo play brother-sister in the film, which is billed to be a thriller. Vishnu who is also producing the film roped in debut Hollywood filmmaker Jeffrey Gee Chin to wield the megaphone. Let us see if the film has what it takes to keep the viewers engaged.

Story: Arjun(Vishnu), Anu(Kajal), Sid(Naveen Chandra), and Vijay (Navdeep) perpetrate a multi-million dollar scam. They target native Americans and dupe them in the name of IRS, an USA government agency. This invites the attention of the US anti corruption department. The rest of the story unveils the story behind the scam and its lethal consequences.

What about on-screen performances?

Vishnu plays Arjun, the brains behind the scam and he comes up with a decent performance. He has the right demeanour to play such a role. Kajal bags a good role and she fits perfectly. She looks gorgeous as well. Naveen Chandra and Navdeep play supporting roles and they do a fine job. Suniel Shetty gets a poorly-written role but he does his best to ooze life into it. Bollywood actress Ruhi Singh makes a very brief appearance and she adds some glamour.

What about off-screen talents?

Mosagallu is based on a real-life scam and all the writers had to do was present it in an engaging manner. But sadly the director and writing department had no clue about how to narrate what promised to be a good story. The scenes preceding the scam and the way the scam is executed by those involved is silly and illogical. Way too many cinematic liberties were taken to narrate a story that needed an honest approach. The director, Jeffrey is to be blamed for it.

Sheldon Chau’s cinematography is impressive in a few scenes. Sam CS’s background score is one of the very few positives of the film. He breathes life into quite a few scenes which otherwise would have turned out flat and bland. Editing should have been better.

What’s Hot?

  • Visuals
  • Kajal’s performance
  • Background score

What’s Not?

  • Lacks nativity
  • Bland narration
  • Illogical scenes
  • Poor direction
  • Poor establishment of the scam episode
  • Stretched out pre-climax block

Verdict:

Mosagallu was promoted as an edge of the seat thriller inspired from a real life scam. But the film neither has suspense nor any gripping elements. It is as bland and illogical as a thriller can get. Manchu Vishnu’s search for a box office hit gets extended with this film.
