In a major turn of events, the Allahabad High Court has declared a man innocent after he spent 20 years in prison. The court ordered to release of the man after it was found that he did not commit the crime.
According to reports, an Uttar Pradesh man Vishnu Tiwari was sentenced to life imprisonment in a molestation case in 2000. He was 23 at the time of his conviction.
In September 2000, a woman from Silawan village in Uttar Pradesh accused the youngster of raping her, following which, he was charged for rape, criminal intimidation and sexual exploitation of an SC woman under the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Soon after, a trial court found him guilty and penalized him to life imprisonment.
Tiwari lived with his father and two brothers in a village in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Sorrowfully, every member of the Tiwari family has expired in these years.
