Remaking super hit Tamil and Hindi films was a common practice in Tollywood till date. But Telugu filmmakers seem to have set their focus on Malayalam film industry now.
Ever since Venkatesh scored a big hit with Drishyam, a remake of Malayalam thriller with the same title, Tollywood has been keeping a close watch on Malayalam film industry.
Venkatesh Maha’s ‘UMUR’ is a remake of ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’ and it is gearing up for a direct OTT release. Also, Sujeeth is working on the Telugu remake of Malayalam political drama, ‘Lucifer’ and Chiranjeevi will playing lead role in the film.
Apart from these two, ‘Ayyapanum Koshiyum’, and ‘Kappela’ will be remade in Telugu soon. Sithara Entertainment owns the remake rights of both the films. Rana Daggubati, and Ravi Teja have been finalized to play lead roles in ‘Ayyapanum Koshiyum’ and Sagar Chandra will be directing it.
A few producers are showing umpteen interest on ‘Driving License’, another Malayalam super hit. The film will be remade in Telugu sooner or later.
Going by these developments, it is safe to say that Malayalam film fever is catching up in Tollywood and we might be hearing about more remakes in the days to come.
