Livestock department officials raided meat shops in the city and penalised the stores for selling at high prices contrary to regulations. The city-wide raids were carried out on Sunday at the behest of minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. Cases and penalties were imposed in addition to the siege of non-compliance.
A special committee has been set up with a team of 5 members in the Livestock Department for inspections. Dr. Babu Berry is the committee convener. Officials have warned that stringent measures will be taken if higher prices are charged. He said the inspections would be conducted every day. Baldia officials said on Friday, the fines of Rs 1,22,300 was imposed on meat shops that did not meet the norms in all circles within the Greater Jurisdiction.
Amberpet, CI Mohankumar, said on Sunday that, Ramanathapur Vishal, Vinayaknagar, Ali café chowrasta shops were found selling meat at ridiculously high prices. Kisara police on Sunday registered a case against a meat stall in the chiryala Containment Zone, which is contrary to the rules.
Many people flooded on the streets to buy meat on the ocassion of Ramadan. Skinless chicken meat was sold no lesser than Rs. 200. Mutton Withbone has been sold from Rs 750 to Rs 800. Shoppers say meat sales steeped down more than last week and said sales rose 30 per cent as more people turned to chicken instead of mutton.
