Lasith Malinga announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Veteran Sri Lanka cricketer Lasith Malinga on Tuesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He played 30 Test matches, 226 ODIs and 84 T20Is for Sri Lanka, picking up 546 wickets.

In 226 appearances in the ODI format, the 38-year-old cricketer picked 338 wickets with three hat-tricks. In T20Is, Malinga took 107 and 101 wickets in the longest format of the game, appearing in 30 Tests for the nation.

“The experience that I have gained through the past 17 years will no longer be needed in the field since I have decided to retire from T20I Cricket, marking my retirement from all formats of cricket,” said Malinga.

“But I will be continuously supporting the younger generations who thrive to uplift the spirit of the game, and I will always be there with all who love the game,” he added.

Malinga last played a T20I match for Sri Lanka in March 2020 against West Indies in Pallekele.
