The ruling parties of any state, and at the centre, are often rich, due to the huge amounts of donations that are made to them by industrialists, corporates, contractors and others, who want to remain profitable and unaffected during the rule of any party. While the political parties in power turn out to be rich during this time, it is very rare for any party to announce that they are rich.
Telangana Chief Minister KCR has said on several occasions that Telangana is a rich state, but he never spoke about the financial position of the TRS. This is why it came as a major shock when he said that the TRS is a rich party, during his speech at the recently held plenary. KCR said that the TRS has fixed deposits of Rs 425 crore in various banks and banks pay Rs 2 crore interest to TRS every month.
Political analysts are of the opinion that KCR made this statement to send a message to his opponents that they can’t come close to the party and the power it wields, due to its financially strong position. While the fact that a strong financial position is highly crucial for a political party’s sustenance is true, it is to be remembered that it is not the only thing that is necessary. That being said, many think that KCR has taken the wrong step by announcing these financial details. It is now to be seen if this statement will bring any negative repercussions for KCR and TRS in the coming days.
