The TRS party, under the instructions of Chief Minister KCR, has staged state-wide protests and rallies against the Central Government, regarding the paddy procurement issue. Effigies were burnt, and KCR himself took part in the protests, by sitting at the dharna in Indira Park in November, to build pressure on the Centre.
KCR’s pressure tactics now seem to have worked on the Centre, given that the central BJP has agreed to increase the intake of paddy from Telangana, for this Kharif season, by 6 Lakh metric tonnes. A written confirmation of this was also released by the Centre today, on Tuesday.
On the whole, the paddy procurement from Telangana has increased from 40 to 46 lakh metric tonnes for this Kharif season. Whatever the reason for the Centre to have changed its mind maybe, members of the TRS are said to be celebrating their victory right now. On the other hand, political experts say that the centre decided to bend to KCR’s demands to make sure that they continue to have the support of the TRS in Telangana.
