The most prestigious Nizamabad parliament constituency, where the chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter K Kavitha, is seeking re-election, has to face some embarrassment when she turned out to cast her vote.
Reason given was some problem with the EVM in the booth where her vote was registered. The officials took about half-an-hour to rectify the EVM machine.
Though some of the voters managed to utilize their voting in shorter span of time, yet many apparently faced difficulties as there were too many contestants’ names on the EVMs. A record 185 candidates remained in the fray with different symbols, besides as many as 12 EVMs were positioned for voting.
She did express her displeasure over the poor poll arrangements. This was even after the officials claiming of making elaborate arrangements.
Unconfirmed reports claim that only 41 per cent of polling has taken place. However, the official figures are yet to be out from the Election Commission.
Kavitha is locked in three-cornered contest with D Aravind of BJP and Madhu Yaski Goud of Congress.
Meanwhile, officials claim that they have arranged flex boards with details of contesting candidates’ names with symbols at the outside of the polling stations.
