All the tribal constituencies of Andhra Pradesh have favoured the YSRCP government since the 2014 elections but looks like the party is losing its grip on these constituencies, evidenced by the recent local bodies polls in Paduru constituency where the opposition party, TDP, made a comeback by bagging a few Mandal Praja Parishads.
The tribals seem to have lost their faith in the YSRCP after the Jagan government failed to fulfil the promises it made to tribals in the 2019 Assembly elections. Jagan promised to give pensions to tribals by relaxing the age limit from 50 years to 45 years but failed to do so. The YSRCP government also failed to finish constructing the government hospital and provide better medical facilities as promised, even after two years.
The Jagan government also declared that welfare schemes would not be extended to those tribals who own more than 5 acres of land, resulting in a widespread outrage amongst the community. Apart from that, the groupism in the party has made things worse. YSRCP Araku MP G Madhavi is trying to contest as the MLA from Paduru in the 2024 assembly elections, which is strongly opposed by MLA Bhagya Lakshmi and her supporters. As a result, everything seems to be falling apart for the party in the tribal areas.
