There is no question about the fact that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has enjoyed unchallenged popularity under KCR’s leadership, in the last two elections. In the last three and a half years, this has been challenged by the BJP, which managed to gain some momentum in the state, having won a good number of seats in the GHMC elections, and even winning with a majority in the Dubbaka and Huzurabad by-elections.
While the TRS and KCR have tried to reassert their dominance in the state, it has been a hit and a miss. Everyone expected KCR to get more aggressive towards making sure that there is no competition to the TRS in the state, but he changed direction and started concentrating on his ambition of being a key player in national politics instead, essentially leaving a gaping void in the state politics.
Seizing this as an opportunity, not only the BJP, but the Congress party is also strengthening its hold on the state. TPCC chief Revanth Reddy has been playing every card he can, to once again bring back the Congress party to the limelight in the state. With TRS not being represented, or spoken for adequately in the state, it looks like KCR is on a self-destructive path, by ignoring the state and focusing his energies elsewhere.
