IPL 2020: MI vs CSK – Rayudu & du Plessis destroy Mumbai’s deadly bowling attack

The inaugural match of Dream 11 IPL 2020 started on a striking note as both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have put up an entertaining show. All thanks to the half centuries of Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis, Chennai chased a total of 163 in 19.2 overs. Apart from De Kock and Sourabh Tiwary, all the other batsmen of Mumbai failed miserably and ended up their team with a modest total.

Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl, given the chances of dew in the latter half of the match. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for Mumbai Indians. They gave a crackling start to the team by scoring more than 40 runs in the first four overs. However, leggie Piyush Chawla came in for the rescue of Chennai and removed Rohit when the score was 46. In the very next over, de Kock lost his wicket too. Still, Mumbai was in a better position due to the reasonable partnership between Surya Kumar Yadav and Sourabh Tiwary. Especially, the latter played a sensible role in anchoring the innings. He got good support from Yadav and Hardik Pandya. However, the 15th over changed the course of the game. Jadeja dismissed both Tiwary and Pandya in the same over, all thanks to stunning catches by Faf du Plessis. After that, no one could lift the innings of Mumbai. At last, they had to settle with 162 in 20 overs.

Chennai had a shaky start while chasing this moderate total. Both the openers Murali Vijay and Shane Watson fell when the team is yet to reach a double-digit total. Then came Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis who anchored the innings with sensible batting. They didn’t go for hefty shots and tried to rotate the strike most of the time. While Rayudu entertained with classy shots, du Plessis made a mark by hitting big only when needed. Soon after Rayudu’s dismissal, Jadeja also left the crease by creating no impact. After that, Sam Curran made a little entertaining cameo. In the end, it was Dhoni and du Plessis ended the things in a smooth way.

Scorecard:

Mumbai Indians: 162/9 (Sourabh Tiwary 42, Quinton de Kock 33)

Chennai Super Kings: 166/5 (Ambati Rayudu 71, Faf du Plessis 58*)
