India’s Omicron tally rises to 653

The total number of Omicron variant cases in India has now crossed the 600-mark after the country reported the highest single-day count of 135 cases on Monday. The highly infectious variant of COVID-19 spread to two new states, Goa and Manipur, affecting 20 states and Union territories.

Maharashtra (167), Delhi (165), Kerala (57) and Telangana (55) have recorded the most number of cases of the new COVID-19 variant.

Meanwhile, India recorded 6,358 new covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours. Active cases currently stand at 75,456, while the recovery rate is at 98.90 per cent. The death toll due to the virus in the country has risen to 4,80,290 with 293 fresh fatalities reported in 24 hours, the government said.

On the other side, the Health Ministry said that 142.47 crore Coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered across India so far.
