India achieves new milestone in Covid-19 vaccination

India has achieved a new milestone in Coronavirus vaccination after the country administered 75 crores of Covid vaccine doses, since the launch of the nationwide drive in January this year. At this rate, up to 43% of India’s population will be covered by December.

As per reports, India took 85 days to touch the 10-crore vaccination mark, 45 more days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crore.

The World Health Organisation congratulated India for achieving the milestone. “WHO congratulated India for scaling up Covid-19 vaccination at an unprecedented pace. While it took 85 days to administer the first 100 million doses, India reached 750 million doses from 650 million in just 13 days,” said WHO’s regional director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh.

Going by the reports, more than 57 crore people have been vaccinated with the first dose and over 18 crore with their second. More than 99% of healthcare workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs ) were jabbed with at least one shot of vaccine.
