The first day of the first Test between India and New Zealand ended with six overs to spare. Team India captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat. By the end of the first day’s play, Team India is at 258 for the loss of four wickets.
Shreyas Iyer was batting on 75 while Ravindra Jadeja was unbeaten on 50 at stumps. Mayank Agarwal (13), Cheteshwar Pujara (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (35) were the other batsmen to score.
Kyle Jamieson troubled the Indian batters, scalping three wickets, while his pace colleague Tim Southee took one wicket.
