India is still continuing its efforts to reduce the incidence of covid-19 virus. As per the latest news, it is learnt that more than one-fifth of the India’s adult population was at some point contracted covid-19 infection stated Indian council of medical research in the third serological survey.
A serological survey is held to determine the prevalence of a disease in a population. It is performed by detecting the presence of antibodies against the virus from the blood samples collected from individuals using IgG Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test.
The medical data released depicts about the prevalence of antibodies, considered as an evidence that the person has contracted Covid-19 in the past. From the statistical extrapolations, of ICMR survey, it was learnt that 21.4% population were found to be seropositive.
A marked increase in the prevelance of the virus was observed. It was found to be 0.7% in April in the first survey followed by 7.1% in August (second survey), which later rose to 21.4% in the third serological survey conducted from December 17 2020 to January 8 2021.
The exclusive data released on seroprevalence among those aged 10-18 is detected as 25 %
in the same 700 villages in 70 districts across 21 states. The prevelance in health workers is amounting to 25.7% with 26.6 among doctors and nurses.
The prevalence of virus in Urban areas was figured out to be 31.7% 26.2 in other urban places and 19.1 % in rural areas.
