Two GST officials have been arrested by the CBI, in Hyderabad, recently, for asking and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 Crores, to settle a wrongful input tax credit case.
The two individuals, ex-deputy commissioner service tax anti-evasion in GST Department Sudha Rani Chilaka and department superintendent Sreenivasa Gandhi Bollineni were booked by the CBI for asking a whopping Rs. 5 Crores, and for accepting a sum of Rs. 10 Lakhs from Infiniti Metal Products India Ltd, which was facing a probe in tax credit issue.
The rest of the amount was asked to be paid to them in the form of lands and plots. The person who paid them the money, the then director of the company, J Satya Sridhar Reddy, has also been booked by the CBI. Reddy was arrested on March 6, 2019 and was released on March 29, 2019.
An 11 month enquiry had been conducted into the case, after which the officials proceeded with the arresting of the GST officials. The CBI has also taken permission from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, to proceed with the arrest.
