The GHMC submitted a review petition to the Telangana High Court, with respect to the Ganesh Nimarjan judgement that the HC passed earlier. The HC had declared that Ganesh idols made out of Plaster of Paris cannot be immersed in the Hussain Sagar and asked the government to come up with an alternative to the issue.
This review petition was submitted by GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and was reviewed by ACJ Justice Ramachandra Rao and Justice Vinod Kumar. Lokesh asked the HC to review its judgement based on the prevailing circumstances. It was declared by the HC that there is no chance of reviewing the original judgment, and the judges, in turn, questioned whether the government was not aware of the prevailing circumstances earlier and whether it wasn’t aware of the fact that idols cannot be immersed in the ponds earlier.
The HC also said that there is no way the judgement can be changed on the matter, and said that it would not allow for Hussain Sagar to be polluted. The HC asked the government to come up with a solution to the problem that it created for itself and said that it was up to the government if it wanted to follow orders or not, and said that it was the HC’s responsibility to follow its duty.
