The YSRCP government has been very adamant about going ahead with the 3 Capital bill, no matter how many hurdles it has had to face, and no matter how many people have openly stated their opposition to the idea.
The capital was to be shifted to Visakhapatnam by August 14th, from where Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan intends to work as soon as possible. However, with the High Court’s interference, and the issuing of Status Quo on the shifting of capital, there’s still hope for Amararavti as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Almost like a butterfly effect, the government’s adamant behavior has been reflecting elsewhere, causing unwanted trouble. The Gannavaram Airport in Vijayawada is currently expanding, and a lot of land is required for this expansion. Previously, it was promised that those who gave away lands near Gannavaram would receive equal share of land in Amaravati. At that time, this was a profitable deal, given that land prices were increasing in Amaravati, owing to its Capital status.
However, with the 3 Capital bill, the land prices in Amaravati are now dwindling, and all the land owners of lands near Gannavaram do not seem interested in giving away their lands for the expansion of Gannavaram Airport anymore. Notable film personalities like Krishnam Raju and Ashwini Dutt have also taken away their lands in Gannavaram have expressed no interest in giving them away, when they were approached.
On the other hand, nearly 700 acres of lands have been taken back by farmers as well, who are once again using their lands for cultivation. Even the farmers have not expressed any interest in trading their lands, and have revolted against the government for what it has done to the farmers of Amaravati.
With the Central Government already approving the expansion of Gannavaram Airport, and allocating a budget, it would be a disaster to not be able to expand the airport right now. The government needs to come up with a solution as soon as possible, before this totally backfires in their face.
