A person named Kilaru Naga Shravan from Vijayawada recently filed a Public Interest Litigation petition, against the YSRCP government’s policy of directing all of its advertisements to channels that favor the ruling party.
Speaking about this petition – Subrahmanyam Sriram, the Advocate General of the AP government – on Friday, said that the benamis of TDP are abusing PILs to simply support the opposition party, and to get back at the ruling party. Sriram also expressed great displeasure in the High Court entertaining such petitions that serve no actual purpose.
In his petition, the petitioner stated that the ruling party was advertising extensively only through Sakshi, which is run by the ruling party itself, and that no other channels were getting any advertisements. Reacting to this, Sriram said that the TDP government too did a very similar thing when it was in power, by directing all of its advertisements to only Andhra Jyothi or Eenadu, which are known to be huge supporters of the TDP.
Sriram also alleged that the petitioner only gave one half of the true picture, and also said that the petitioner has exaggerated the actual facts in his petition, to simply make the ruling party look bad in the eyes of the court. Sriram further went on to say that the TDP was fixated upon making the government look bad at any cost, and win the war against YSRCP, even though it lost the general elections last year.
The High Court agreed for Sriram to submit his preliminary objections with respect to the PIL that was submitted by the petitioner. The next session has been scheduled two weeks later, before which Sriram is to submit his objections.
