Families struggle to get their Indian expats’ dead bodies during lockdown

Families were devastated as the three dead bodies of UAE-based Indian expats were returned to the nation from New Delhi, India.

Relatives held up outside the Indira Gandhi International Airport for a considerable time, yet they were later advised to return home as the dead remains of expats Jagsir Singh, Sanjeev Kumar and Kamlesh Bhatt were transferred back to Abu Dhabi, following another order executed by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA)

Inderjeet, brother in law of Sanjeev situated in Al Ain, said their family in Punjab was crest fallen by looking at the helpless situation.

“This is a non-coronavirus demise. We had a death certificate as evidence and every single essential archive from Indian Embassy. However, the body was returned while our relatives held up outside the air terminal. This is heart wrenching. The body shouldn’t have been returned. It’s hard to venture out across states due to Covid-19 limitations and furthermore to organize the emergency vehicle,” Inderjeet said.

While kamlesh family who dwells in the Indian territory of Uttarakhand have existing travel limitations. They needed to obtain grants from various states to arrive at New Delhi.

Dubai-based social activist Girish Pant, who is in contact with the family, said they are totally discouraged with the heartbreaking unforeseen events.

“His sibling Vimlesh needed to get back without the remaining parts. They are clueless confused and in utter torment. With the new order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, I have educated the family that the body will be sent within 48 hours. I am also planning with the Indian Embassy regarding this,” Pant said.
