In a shocking twist, a recent death of a Delhi doctor despite getting vaccinated is triggering more doubts about vaccine safety and efficacy.
Minutes before Dr Anil Kumar Rawat was kept on a ventilator at Delhi’s Saroj Hospital, he said a colleague: “I will come out of this. I have been vaccinated, I will come out.” On Saturday morning, the 58-year-old surgeon succumbed to Covid.
Reportedly, after getting infected with Covid-19 about 10-12 days ago, Dr Rawat was initially in home quarantine but had to be transferred to the hospital when his oxygen level began declining.
Dr Bhardwaj and his team attempted in every possible way to save him and even considered a lung transplant: “We gave him whatever was needed. We did everything possible… It’s a huge loss. So many doctors and healthcare staff are falling sick, even after being vaccinated, but they are recovering after having mild symptoms. This is the first death at present of a doctor who was fully vaccinated.”
It was learnt from Dr P K Bhardwaj, the chief executive director of Saroj hospital that the doctor was a true gentle man since establishment of Saroj hospital in1994. He died on Saturday despite receiving the second shot of the Covishield vaccine at the beginning of March.
