The Indian Meteorological Department has revealed that the cyclone ‘Yaas’ made landfall near Balasore in Odisha. The cyclone resulted in destruction in the coastal districts of Odisha and West Bengal while crossing the coast. Heavy winds and heavy rains caused havoc in the area.
Many houses, huge trees, electricity poles, and towers collapsed due to the high-speed winds. As a result, the power supply was interrupted. The high-speed winds, which were blowing at a speed of 130-155 km per hour, lashed the Bhadrak district in Odisha. The roofs of houses were blown off in some places due to strong winds.
About 30 villages in the area were submerged in seawater. Many parts of Odisha and Bengal have been inundated with rains for the past three days due to the cyclone. Indian Army, NDRF and ODRF teams are carrying out relief operations.
