Chennai witnessed the second loss in its first three games. Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals beat Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs. It was Shikhar Dhawan (35) and Prithvi Shaw’s (64) stunning start which gave Delhi a solid position in the game. Their bowling department also deserves a pat on the back for not allowing Chennai to score big at any point. It was Faf du Plessis (43) who once again played a good knock on Chennai’s side. Delhi stood in the first position of the points table with this win.
After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings invited Delhi Capitals to bat. After a horrendous start in the first game, the openers of DC came back strong and played an attacking cricket this time. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw made 94 runs partnership for the first wicket. Especially, Shaw stole the show with classy shots and strokeplay. He got good support from Dhawan. They both fell in the gap of two overs. Then, Rishab Pant (37) and Shreyas Iyer (26) made a sensible 58 run partnership for the third wicket. Shreyas finally got out in the 19th over. By the end of 20 overs, Delhi managed to score 175/3.
While chasing this formidable total, Chennai got an early blow as opener Shane Watson fell in the fifth over. In the next over, another opener Murali Vijay also got dismissed. In the first six overs, Chennai’s score was 36/2. Soon, young Ruturaj Gaikwad got runout. Then, Kedhar Jadhav teamed up with du Plessis and tried to settle the innings. When CSK was flexing muscles to score big, Nortje dismissed Jadhav. After that, du Plessis got out as well. In the last over, Rabada castled both Dhoni and Jadeja and restricted Chennai to 131.
