Criticism over Jagan’s over-enthusiasm on reopening of schools

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government has decided to reopen the schools in Andhra Pradesh on Nov2nd on alternate days to alternate classes. It is well known that the whole country has been locked down since last March due to the coronavirus. As part of this, educational institutions were also closed. Even in the AP, then closed educational institutions have not reopened so far.

In states like Karnataka and Maharashtra, governments have announced that they will not open educational institutions until the next academic year. The decision taken by the above governments as a precaution was welcomed by the people. Now, no one understands why the AP government is in such a hurry to open the educational institutions.

At a recent review meeting chaired by Jaganmohan Reddy, it was decided to open educational institutions from November 2. It was decided to open classes 1,3,5,7 one day and classes 2,4,6,8 another day. Even a small kid can say that the chances of COVID transmission are very high in a classroom where hundreds of students can’t be controlled or properly instructed to follow safety measures and social distancing.

The AP government has announced the reopening of educational institutions at least four times so far and they are all set to be opened again due to the virus calming down. This means that the government is getting thinner in front of the people by repeatedly announcing that it will postpone the reopening of schools. Parents were not asked to open educational institutions. Because it makes sense that an academic year is wasted anyway.

Many people opine that Jagan can look after providing the poor students the required broadband and mobile phones for online studies in this critIcal period rather than spending thousands of crores on freebies.
