The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave the nod for the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive from March 1, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said.
People above 60 years of age and those above 45 years of age with other illness will get the jab at 10,000 government and over 20,000 private vaccination centres. The vaccine will be given for free from government centres while people have to pay at private hospitals.
The health ministry will decide the amount for the vaccine from private hospitals within 3-4 days, as the discussions are going on with manufacturers & hospitals.
The regulator gave the go-ahead to emergency use of two Coronavirus vaccines — Covishield by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech.
