CM Jagan led government made a crucial decision during the lockdown. With the discontinuation of pilgrims visiting temples, the government has taken the initiative to help the priests who have been struggling to make their livelihood. Chief Minister Jagan’s decision comes at a cost of Rs. 5,000, which will be paid in the form of grants, said minister of the deity Velampalli Srinivasarao.
Those who have not received any monthly salaries from the endowment department and who are not benefited by schemes from Devadaya sakha, will be supported by Archaka Welfare Fund. The scheme is to make priests benefited across the state.
More than 2,800 priests are getting benefited from the government every month through the state’s Archaka Welfare Fund. However there are 2,500 priests across the state who are not eligible to avail the scheme.
Prime Minister Modi announced the lockdown in March and is likely to extend after April 14th. All the prominent temples where pilgrims use to throng are now closed and no visitors are allowed into temples since then. Priests alone have been worshipping the deities as part of the tradition in spite of the closure of temples. All the small temples are in shortage of funds and priests’ situation has worsened. For the very reason, CM Jagan announced Rs 5000/- grants to each and every priest through Archaka welfare fund.
