Chinese residents “Locked Up” in homes amid Covid-19 Surge

China, which is the origin of Covid-19, is once again witnessing a surge in fresh Delta variant cases. In order to contain the virus spread, the Chinese government is following strict protocols, and it is even locking the residents inside their homes by putting iron bars on their doors.

Several videos have surfaced on social media platforms like Weibo, Twitter, and YouTube, showing officials in PPE suits installing iron bars over the doors of people’s houses and preventing anyone from leaving.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, the editor claims that if someone is found to have opened their door more than three times in one day, the authorities will lock them inside. And if anyone in the apartments is infected with the virus or came in contact with the positive person, the building will be completely sealed for two to three weeks.

China’s National Health Commission on August 9 announced 143 new confirmed Coronavirus cases in at least 17 provinces, the highest spike since January 20.
