Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam has landed in trouble after a horse reportedly died on the set of his upcoming movie, Ponniyin Selvan. PETA India recently filed a complaint against the filmmaker for forcing exhausted horses to shoot until they drop dead.
There are rules to take proper care of when using animals in film shooting. But the negligence of the organizers took the life of that dumb creature. Providing no information regarding this incident, the movie team buried the deceased horse silently and whipped their hands. However, PETA representatives approached the police with the information provided by those involved in the shooting.
As per reports, Ponniyin Selvan team shot last month at a farm in Anajpur village on the outskirts of Hyderabad. They used 40–50 horses for the battle scene in the film. One of the horses in the group died of dehydration on the 11th of last month while shooting.
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has sought an inquiry in connection with the death of a horse. Based on the PETA petition, police conducted a postmortem on the dead horse with the help of a local veterinarian.
