Biophore seeks DCGI approval for Covid treatment drug Aviptadil

It is known that several pharma companies across the world are working round the clock to produce an efficient vaccine for the novel Coronavirus.

While Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech had already got a nod from the DCGI and the vaccine is being administered to people, now one more Pharma company is all set to play a big role to beat the ongoing pandemic.

Hyderabad-based Biophore India Pharmaceuticals on Friday said it has sought emergency use approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for Aviptadil inhalation for the treatment of moderate-to-severe cases of Covid-19 in India.

As per the company, Aviptadil is a synthetic form of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) which, when administered, results in rapid clinical recovery in patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Hyderabad-based Biophore was one of the few companies to be licensed to manufacture the antiviral drug ‘Favipiravir’ during the first wave of Kovid. After this, it is now formulating Aviptadil and waiting for approval.
