Director Mallidi Vashist

Music M. M. Keeravani
Run Time 2 hr 27 Min

Bimbisara is the costliest film in Kalyan Ram’s lineup and it released in theaters today. Let’s see what the film has to offer.

Story:

The story is set in two different timelines. Bimbisara, a fictional king who is on the mission to expand his Trigartala empire to the fullest. Incidentally, he is transported to 2022 Hyderabad where he has to deal with modern day hustle and bustle. Why is Bimbisara transported to modern day era? What does he have to do here?

What about onscreen performances?

Kalyan Ram suits the specifications of the Bimbisara role to perfection. He delivers a standout performance. Samyuktha Menon and Catherine Tressa get brief roles and they deliver what’s expected of them. Y Srinivas Reddy excels in the comical character. The rest of the star cast do justice and come up with commendable performances.

What About offscreen talents?

Bimbisara is essentially powered by technical finesse. MM Keeravani’s background score is the life source for the film. His exceptional score highlights the narrative to a whole new extent and he could well be regarded as one of the main ‘heroes’ of the film. Cinematographer Chota K Naidu delivers brilliant output with his visuals. His visual composition is of elite quality.

Debut director Vassishta picks a large canvas subject that is usually tough to execute for a first timer. But he does a fairly decent job at it. His narrative is a tad patchy at times, but the socio fantasy element holds the attention for most part. The production values are good. The big scale of the project is clear for most parts.

What’s Hot?

  • Kalyan Ram’s performance
  • Interesting premise
  • Keeravani’s background score

What’s Not?

  • Uneven narration
  • Tacky climax

Verdict: Bimbisara is a fairly engaging socio fantasy drama that makes for a decent one time watch. The climax portion could’ve been better as things are rushed through. It is essentially the tale of Kalyan Ram’s character’s redemption. It makes for a decent watch if you with expectations in check.
