OTT Review: Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna – Good story, but lacks emotion.!

Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna, starring Naveen Chandra and Salony Luthra in the lead roles skipped theatrical release and is available for streaming on Aha starting from today. The trailer suggested the film is a sensible rom-com that suits the interests of digital audience. Here’s our review of the film.

Story:

Bhanumathi(Salony Luthra) is a strong and independent girl who is in a relationship with a guy named Ram. Just as Bhanumathi hopes to take the relationship to the next level, Ram breaks her heart, saying he is already in a relationship with another girl. Heartbroken, Bhanumathi tries to get on with her life and this is when she meets Ramakrishna (Naveen Chandra) at her workplace.

Bhanumathi is handed with the responsibility of training him and in the process, the duo, in their 30’s develop feelings for each other. How does an aggressive girl like Bhanumathi fall in love with a guy from a rural background, Ramakrishna? What are the complications that are to follow? To know the answers you should watch the film.

How about on-screen stars performance?

Naveen Chandra plays the role of a happy-go-lucky guy who comes from a rural background. He breathes life to the character with his stunning performance. Salony Luthra who plays a typical Vijayawada girl in the film is a good find. She is very expressive and carries the flow of the proceedings with good ease. Raja Chambolu and Viva Harsha make a brief appearance and they are good.

How about off-screen talents?

The director Srikanth Nagothi narrated the story of a couple, in their 30’s, with their own set of problems, at his own pace. The characters and the situations are near-to-life. Dialogues are well-written and keep the viewer hooked. He did a good job in extracting the best out of the lead cast. Cinematography by Sai Prakash is very good as the colour palette matches the tone of the film.

Shravan Bharadwaj’s soundtrack is good. The background music carries the mood quite well. Production values are decent. Editing could have been better. In a bid to keep the run-time short, a few crucial scenes were cut short and that tampers the feel.

Verdict:

Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna has a familiar story-line but what stands out is the presentation. The set-up is very realistic and dialogues are exemplary. However, the right feel is not carried all through the movie as narration is slow at times and editing is not up to the mark. The ending is abrupt. The emotions are underwhelming and that shows a great effect on the film, as a whole.

Watch or not?

If you like simple and feel-good love dramas that are narrated at a slow pace you can give this film a try.
