AP government withdraws its petition from SC

In a shocking turn of events, the Andhra Pradesh government withdrew its Special Leave petition on the alleged insider trading of Amaravati lands. The AP government approached the SC after it was disappointed with the High Court’s verdict in the matter when the High Court issued a stay order in the ACB’s investigation of the issue.

Rajeev Dhavan, the advocate representing the Jagan government, withdrew the case from the SC, which was presided over by a bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari. Dhavan also stated that the AP government would like to go back to the HC for a full hearing. In the FIR filed by the AP ACB, 13 persons were named, including two daughters of Chief Justice of India Justice N V Ramana, then a Supreme Court judge and former advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas.

Just last week, the AP government said that it was ready to not take any coercive action against NV Ramana’s daughters if the SC allowed for an ACB investigation into the matter. With the government now withdrawing its case, it is to be seen what will happen next.
