In a very predictable move, the Andhra Pradesh government has indeed approached the Supreme Court regarding the 3 Capital bill, and the verdict that the High Court of Andhra Pradesh gave on it.
A few days ago, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh ordered a status quo on shifting the capital, for 10 days. This has hindered the plans of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s, as he wanted to shift the Capital to Visakhapatnam by August 15th.
The High Court was the only organisation that could come to the rescue of the farmers of Amaravati when the Central Government washed its hands off the issue and made it clear that the power lies with the state government alone.
The YSRCP government has not approached the Supreme Court and requested for a Special Leave Petition seeking a stay on the Status Quo verdict given by the High Court.
A staggering amount of Rs. 52,000 Crores was spent on the development of Amaravati as per the AP Capital Region Development Authority Records (CRDA). This was spent on infrastructure, government buildings, water, power supply and other works. The High COurt expressed concern over the spending of such huge amounts of money, and has requested the government to submit more details regarding the same, before August 14th.
It is now to be seen what judgement will be passed by the High Court after August 14th, and if the SC will give a stay order on the Status Quo issued by HC.
