Recently we’ve all heard that several people in Andhra Pradesh have been dying after consuming sanitisers to quench their desire for alcohol. Sadly, this scenario is getting worse day by day, with more and more people consuming sanitisers everyday.
The reason for this has been stated as the increased prices of alcohol in Andhra Pradesh, because of the ongoing crisis due to Coronavirus. The prices had been increased by 75%, which resulted in people not being able to purchase alcohol like they used to previously.
Sanitisers are also being available at cheaper prices, as compared to previously. You can get a bottle of sanitizer for Rs. 40 or 50, whereas you can’t get alcohol for even Rs. 100. This has led to poor people resorting to consuming sanitisers for the kick of alcohol.
Bearing this in mind, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to have decided to reduce the prices of alcohol by 30% to 40%. This would ensure that the deaths would significantly reduce, and that people would stop consuming sanitizers.
Smuggling of alcohol from other states to AP is also expected to reduce with the reduction in alcohol prices.
