AP government not going back on council abolition

The Andhra Pradesh government had proposed for the abolition of the Legislative council way back in 2020, and this proposal has been sitting with the Union Home Minister for a month and a half now. In the meantime, the AP government has been filling vacant posts in the council, with members from the YSRCP itself.

This has raised several concerns and questions, including that the government is planning o scrap its plans of abolishing the council.

Amidst these rumours, Government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that the government has no plans of scrapping the idea of abolishing the council. He clarified that the government is waiting for the centre to take a call on it and that they do not want to pressure the Centre on the issue which is why they’re remaining silent.

He also said that the AP government would be fine with the Centre’s decision, whatever it is. Sajjala also clarified that all those who are part of the Legislative council will lose their posts and that it’s okay.

This was in response to a letter written by YSRCP rebel MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, who wrote a letter to the CM, saying that the government should insist on the abolition of the council and that he’s willing to lobby with the Centre to make sure of it.

On the other hand, Lella Appi Reddy, Thota Trimurthulu, Moshen Raju and Ramesh Yadav took oaths as MLCs on Monday, under the Governor’s quota.
