AP government gets another blow from Supreme Court

The Andhra Pradesh government has been trying its best to get a CBI investigation into the alleged Amaravati land scam. A Special Investigation Team was also established for this purpose, and a part of the investigation was also started. However, the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued a Stay Order on the matter, after which no kind of investigation has taken place.

The government then filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting the court to overrule the Stay Order given by the High Court. Today, this petition came to a hearing in the Supreme Court. This case is being supervised under the precedence of Justice Ashok Bhushan.

Dushyanth Dave argued on behalf of the AP government, and is said to have told the Supreme Court that the Stay Order was issued during the very primary stages of the investigation. When Justice Ashok Bhushan questioned Dave if an investigation was launched into every decision that was taken by the previous government, Dave said that an investigation was launched into those aspects in which the committee – the one that the AP government established – felt there were discrepancies.

Dushyanth Dave even told the Supreme Court that a letter was sent to the Central Government, requesting for a CBi enquiry into the matter. When Justice Bhushan asked Dave if there has been a reply from the Central Government, pertaining to the same, Dave said that they were still waiting for a reply.

The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the respondents of the case, Varla Ramaiah, Aalapati Rajendra Prasad, DGP and the SIT, and has asked them to reply to the arguments presented by the AP government in the SC. The next hearing has been postponed by 4 weeks.
