The Andhra Pradesh Deputy General of Police, Gautam Sawang, was ordered by the High Court, to appear before it, for the hearing of the contempt of court case, which was filed against him, by an employee of the Police Department, after Sawang failed to implement the promotions that he was supposed to, according to the High Court’s directives.
In Sawang’s place, Home Secretary and the IG appeared before the court, and said that Sawang could not make it in person as he was busy discussing the upcoming local elections, with the SEC.
The High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the reason stated for Sawang’s absence, and postponed the hearing of the case, saying that the case would come to hearing only when Sawang can make it to the court. This is not the first time that Sawang has been asked to appear before the HC, as he had previously appeared before the court on several occasions, in relation to several other cases.
Moreover, Sawang failed to appear in front of the HC a few days ago, when the same case came to hearing. The HC even warned that a warrant would be issued against Sawang himself, if he fails to appear before the court the next time.
Given that Sawang failed to appear before the court for the second consecutive time, it is to be seen if he will appear the next time, and what the HC will do, if he once again fails to appear in front of the court.
