Amravati protests intensify, many leaders taken into custody

Many opposition leaders were either detained or put under house arrest as the protests intensified in Amravati and adjoining districts. The state government announced the final decision of the three capitals before the assembly session.

There was a lot of tension in Thullur village as a large number of farmers and other villagers tried to march towards the assembly in response to the ‘Chalo Vidhan Sabha.’ Police used force to stop the protesters. Police took into custody hundreds of TDP protesters, who were trying to reach Amravati from Vijayawada and other parts of Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam, and other districts.

Many TDP leaders were taken into custody or placed under house arrest. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani, former minister Uma Maheswara Rao were among the leaders placed under the house arrest. Thousands of police stationed in Amravati, Vijayawada, and surrounding areas.
